Discover one of Georgia’s most unique and untouched regions on this full-day adventure from Tbilisi. Your journey begins in the morning as you set off with your guide toward the semi-desert landscapes of eastern Georgia. As the road gradually turns into off-road terrain, the scenery transforms into vast open plains, salt lakes, and colorful hills.
Your first stop is the hidden Rainbow Mountains near Lake Mravaltskaro. A short walk reveals hills painted in natural layers of red, yellow, green, and white — shaped over millions of years. There are no crowds or tourist buses here, just silence, wind, and one of Georgia’s top birdwatching spots.
Next, you will explore the David Gareja Monastery Complex. You will first visit the 6th-century monastery of St. John the Baptist, carved directly into the rock, where original frescoes and monastic cells still remain. It is a place of deep quiet and reflection. You will then continue to the Lavra of David Gareja — one of the oldest desert monasteries in Georgia, standing for over 1,500 years. The visit is unhurried, allowing you to fully take in the history and atmosphere of this remarkable place.
After the cultural exploration, you will head to the remote village of Udabno. There you can find a simple, family-run spot surrounded by salt lakes and almond orchards, offering real homemade Georgian food without tourist menus. Enjoy this untouched nature and go back to Tbilisi.
