Sno

Just 10 kilometers away from Stepantsminda, you appear in a small village called Sno. In spite of being the birthplace of the Catholic Patriarch of Georgia, Ilia II Sno is famous for its landscapes, fortresses, and trekking trails. It is also famous for the gigantic sculptures of Merab Piranishvili, a local sculptor who made “faces of the true patriots who saved Georgia”, and these are actually the faces of very famous writers and public figures. The exhibition looks almost unrealistic; the sculptures are made out of gigantic pieces of stone, and each of the sculptures has its own character and spirit.

The village is quite interesting with its small, traditional households and its always kind and welcoming locals. Just by taking a small walk through the village, you can come across many interesting things. For example: sheep migrations, sheep shearing, the harvesting of potatoes, or making Matsoni, a local yogurt. After you continue walking deeper into the gorge, eventually you will reach the village of Juta and a trekking trail over the village of Juta. Amazing café and the Hotel Fifth Season.
