Batumi

Speaking of summer and the sea, beautiful evenings with a slightly wet breeze, short skirts and loud music, colorful stones and green mountains, sunshine, and wooden houses in the wilderness-all this is associated with Adjara and Batumi. It can be so sunny and so beautiful, and at the same time, so rainy and so mesmerizing. Batumi is romance, love, and the blue sea. Batumi has lots of places to see, lots of places to swim, and lots of places to admire. It, as well as other Georgian cities, loves its guests. Batumi is hospitable and is waiting for you.

About

Batumi is a coastal town. It is located in the western part of Georgia, on the coast of the Black Sea, 390 km from Tbilisi. It is the capital of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara. The territory of Batumi was settled even in the Bronze Age. In ancient times, life was bustling in Batumi because of the Black Sea. Locals had active trading relationships with neighboring and non-adjacent countries. From antiquity to the late Middle Ages, Batumi was part of different Georgian kingdoms and duchies; however, in the 15th century, it became part of the Ottoman Empire. It was part of the Ottoman Empire until the XIX c. During the Russian Ottoman wars of 1877-78, and according to the Berlin Treaty of 1878, Batumi and Adjara stayed within the boundaries of the Russian Empire.

Today, Batumi is one of the economic and transportation centers of the country. It connects Central Asian countries to Eastern European countries through the Black Sea. The Port of Batumi is the second-largest in Georgia, with an annual handling capacity of 18 million tons.
